Award Winning Bravekids.org Expands

Resource Directory for Children with Special Needs

Now you can use a free Internet Directory of Resources (in English and Spanish). When you’re looking for resources in the community to assist children with illnesses and special needs look to www.bravekids.org. The Brave Kids Directory lists 25 different categories such as financial assistance, physical therapy, respite centers and special education (just to name a few.) BraveKids.org has expanded the Directory of Resources to provide over 4,000 resource listings in the following California counties: Alameda, Butte, Contra Costa, Fresno, Humbolt, Kern, Los Angeles, Marin, Mendocino, Merced, Monterey, Naper, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Barbara, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, Solano, Sonoma, and Ventura.

By typing in the child’s zip code, you will receive a complete listing of the healthcare resources (in English or Spanish) available in the child’s hometown. The resource directory allows social workers to access a complete listing of healthcare resources and support prior to sending a child home. You can also print out a resource in Spanish to give to a Hispanic parent with limited English speaking abilities. Parents and family members can also utilize the directory to locate support in their community that they desperately need when they feel most isolated and overwhelmed.  Some of the medical information available includes cardiology, oncology, nephrology, pulmonary, and general health topics. As Sharon Leno, a pediatric social worker with California Pacific Medical Center explains, “Brave Kids saves me time and effort to be able to specify searches based on zip codes, versus having to spend hours roaming through web pages and search engines trying to find family resources in a specific area.”
